British Tourism Week joint venture

THE ENGLISH Riviera Tourist Board has joined forces with UKinbound to maximise the resort’s appeal as a tourist destination by hosting its own Local Tourist Week during the inaugural British Tourism Week.

Organised by UKinbound and VisitBritain, British Tourism Week takes place from 12-18 March, and hosts a series of events including the British Travel Trade Fair (13-14 March) and UKinbound’s 30th Anniversary Convention (14-15 March).

Throughout the week, local residents will be able to find out more information on the resort’s tourist attractions, accommodation and restaurants.

English Riviera Tourist Board director of tourism, Aviva Pearson says: “Our aim is to help the market place better understand the English Riviera; where it is, what you can do here and why your customers would love this unique part of England.

"The partnership with UKinbound will ensure that the English Riviera Tourist Board is in an excellent position to deliver key messages to influential members of the tourism industry.”

Bury Market welcomes 1,000 coaches

BURY’S world famous market will attract 1,000 coaches in the year ending 31 March. Its appeal to coach groups is vast with its array of quality goods and produce set across 370 stalls – many undercover – covering a total area of 200,000sq ft.

Bury Market was recently voted best British Market of the Year by the National Association of British Market Authorities, out of 1,150 markets in the UK.

Individual stallholders have also won awards, including Albert’s Butchers for its 70-year-old family sausage recipes.

Following a recent survey by Bury Market, 99 per cent of coach drivers said the Market is successful, 95 per cent of Bury’s customers extolled the opinion the market was definitely a success and a further 4 per cent saying probably a success.

Coach drivers are well catered for with free coach parking and lunch provided.

A free DVD on what’s on offer at Bury Market is also available to our readers by logging on to the Market’s website.

Welcome Break opens at Eurotunnel

MOTORWAY service area operator Welcome Break has opened a new site at the Eurotunnel passenger terminal in Folkestone, Kent, in an estimated deal worth £10million.

Welcome Break is to operate the catering facilities at the terminal building. The site will feature Coffee Primo, which serves gourmet coffee, sandwiches and pastries, Burger King, and Eat In (breakfast and hot food) outlets.

All of the units are set to open by the beginning of May 2007, with the Coffee Primo, the first site to open to the public, in March. In addition to the food and drink outlets, Welcome Break is investing in an improved and expanded seating area.

Welcome Break chief executive Rod McKie says: “ We are always keen to work closely with coach and bus companies and we look forward to welcoming their drivers to the new site and extending all of their regular Welcome Break benefits to them.”

Welcome Break will be exhibiting at this year’s BTTF on stand (AB244).
